Life story
1946

Well-known for his love for people and zest for life, Ken Moody was born on February 2, 1946 at Mercy Hospital in San Diego to parents Merl and Jonnie Moody.

Ken was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness on June 14, 1969.  Fueled by zeal for his faith and a keen desire to share it with as many as he could reach, Ken served as a full-time minister, or pioneer, off and on throughout the years, even embarking on an assignment as a special pioneer in North Dakota in 1970.  Later that year, Ken married the love of his life, Becky, on October 17.  They shared over forty-one years together and had two beloved children, Joel and Jessica.

Becky describes Ken as “always putting others’ interests first.”  It seems he touched everyone’s life with whom he had dealings: his family, friends, neighbors, customers in his carpet cleaning business, and those with whom he shared his hobbies of cycling, running and swimming.  Ken participated in numerous marathons, triathlons and cycling events - further testimonies to his passion for life.  He also had a passion for the game of baseball, which he shared with a number of close friends, having gone on several trips throughout the country to attend various games.   Ken loved music, particularly rhythm and blues, and possessed a cd collection of over five hundred.

“Hugs before handshakes” was one of his mottos, and anyone who met Ken instantly sensed his genuine interest.  He had the ability to put people at ease, and his positive attitude coupled with his empathetic demeanor drew people to him.  Ken could “shoot the breeze” with anyone - an avid conversationalist although a self-proclaimed “shy person”!

Ken’s love for people and his conversational ability easily transferred over into the ministry, which was one of his primary focuses in life.  His love for the ministry was infectious, and as an elder of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years, his assignment was always as school overseer.  No doubt his skilled counsel and commendation, stemming from years of personal experience, was of great value to all who were privileged to hear it.

One of Ken’s favorite Scriptures was Isaiah 41:10, which reads, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.  Do not gaze about, for I am your God.  I will fortify you.  I will really help you.  I will really keep fast hold of you with my right hand of righteousness.”  He used these profoundly meaningful thoughts to comfort others and assist them in drawing close to and relying on Jehovah God, along with various Bible-based points from the book Draw Close to Jehovah, particularly his favorite chapter, chapter 24, which is entitled “Nothing Can Separate Us From God’s Love”.  No doubt Ken would want all of his family and friends to bear in mind these comforting thoughts as we grieve his loss!

Ken is survived by his wife Becky, his son Joel, his daughter Jessica, his sister Linda nieces Amy, April, Ann, nephew Arthur and his grandchildren, Dylan, Peighton, Blake, Jadyn and Sayla.
